II Helps Win One for the Kids
The
5th Annual Gray International Fly-fishing Tournament
hosted by El Gran Escape Restaurantin Quepos,
Costa Rica was once again a success for everyone involved. Previously
known as the Harry Gray Fly Tournament the event has been appropriately
renamed the “GIFT”, since allproceeds are donated to the Liver
Transplant Center in Costa Rica. 34
anglers and 18 boats competed over four days of fishing which proved to
be long and frustrating
at
times, especially for those anglers who fished previous tournaments. Although
the number of releases weren't as high as the last two years a total of
133 sailfish were recorded.
Jim Gallagher reclaimed the Bill
Barnes Top Angler Award with 15 releases this year. Jim won the
Top
Angler Award two years ago as well. First Place
Team winners were Jim Gallagher and
Jeff McFadden
releasing a total of 26 sailfish with Capt. Richard Chellemi aboard Gamefisher
II. This is the
third consecutive year in which they have earned First Place Team in the
Tournament.
Larry
Deddy and Jim Stanger earned the Second Place Team trophy with 15 sailfish
releases aboard Swordfish with Captain Randy Morales. Abraham Concepción
aboard Golfito Sailfish Rancho #4 with Captain
Lindor Jiménez took home the Third Place Trophy with 11 releases.
In
the last five years, the GIFT has raised over $50,000 to help pay for
medicines, equipment and procedures involved in performing liver transplants
for children in Costa Rica. This has been made possible
thanks to each and every angler who has participated and donated to this
Tournament.
