Capitalizing on the
Pacific sailfish migration, the
Gamefisher2 fishes out of Carillo
Bay from January through April and
Flamingo Bay from May through
December, our local knowledge, tournament
success and years
of experience consistently puts
our anglers on the bite.

as the number one boat!
Costa Rica has long been recognized
as one of the worlds best sport fishing destinations. Couple this
with the fact that Costa Rica is a
peaceful democracy and a nation of
kindhearted, fun-loving citizens
who's primary industry is tourism
and you have all of the elements in
place for a very enjoyable sport
fishing vacation in tropical
paradise!
Catch & Release
- The sport fishing
community in Costa Rica has a long
standing, unspoken code of ethics of
"catch & release" where billfish are
concerned. The crew on the
Gamefisher2 are no exception. The
greatest care is always taken for a
healthy billfish release, whereby
the fish is able to swim away on his
own with a minimal amount of stress.
Circle hooks are used as opposed to
J hooks because there is a much
higher incidence of fair hooked fish
(hooked in the mouth rather than
swallowing the hook) this way. Our
crew has mastered other tricks and
techniques over the years that make
them confident today that nearly all
of the billfish released on the
Gamefisher2 are healthy releases.

Seasons:
January through April are the best
months to fish out of Carrillo Bay
and can be very productive for both
Pacific sailfish, blue, black and
striped marlin. May through
September, November and December are
the better months to fish for
billfish out of Flamingo, peak
months being June, July & August.
October can also be good fishing but
it is the rainiest month of the year
and conditions are not generally
very favorable.
Two Locations:
Flamingo/Potrero
- The Gamefisher2
is based out of Potrero Bay, just
minutes north of the resort town of
Flamingo Beach from May through
December.
Carrillo Bay
- From January through
April the Gamefisher2 runs out of
Carrillo Bay in order to get out of
the windy, unfavorable sea
conditions to the north this time of
year.
Catch and
Release:
Costa Rica was the first country in
the world to practice, from the
very beginning of its sportfishing
history, a very strict code of
honor among all the fleet to
release all billfish.
Circle
Hooks:
We on the Gamefisher2 were one of
the first, if not the first, to
use circle hooks for catching
billfish in Costa Rica. We have
been on the cutting edge with the
experimentation, research and the
practice of the rigging techniques
used today. We were also a major
force in the passing of the Costa
Rican Fishing Law making circle
hooks mandatory when fishing for
billfish with live or dead bait.

November 26, 2011: Tom
Stelle and Patrick Cooney
decided to fish way to the
south. We ended up fishing
much further away than we
normally do and were
rewarded for our extra
efforts. We had a small
marlin in the baits that did
not bite.
Patrick successfully
released a blue marlin that
was conservatively estimated
to be well over 900lbs.
It has been probably 10
years since I have seen...........

Costa Rica:
Map of Northwest
Costa Rica.
The Country
Costa Rica is located at 10°
north latitude and 85° west
longitude. It is bordered by
Nicaragua to the north,
Panama to the south, the
Pacific Ocean to the west
and the Caribbean Sea to the
east.
The country is approximately
the size of West Virginia
and is very mountainous. The
21 national parks and
reserves constitute an
impressive 25% of the
country and offer a
breathtaking variety of
flora and fauna.
In Costa Rica there is no
shortage of natural
adventures. Activities such
as whitewater rafting,
kayaking and surfing, along
with horseback riding,
nature hikes and bird
watching can be enjoyed.
Don't forget mountain
biking, sailing, scuba
diving and of course fishing
on both the Pacific and
Caribbean coasts.
Planning A Trip To Costa
Rica
Although the country is
small, distances are
deceiving because of the
mountainous terrain and
generally poor road
conditions. A good rule of
thumb is to spend a minimum
of two nights anywhere you
go. Travelers should allow
for one full day without
driving in order to explore
the area or take a tour.
"Ticos"
Costa Rica has been a
peaceful democratic country
since 1821. The people are
Spanish speaking although
English is spoken along the
Caribbean coastline. The
people affectionately call
themselves "Ticos". Ticos
are especially friendly and
helpful to visitors. They
are proud of their country
and eager to share their
culture and make new
friends.
Traveling Safely
Exercise the same
precautions in Costa Rica as
you would elsewhere in the
world. Remember that rental
cars are particularly
targeted. Never leave
luggage unattended in a
rental car, even if it is in
the trunk. Carry your
passport separate from your
wallet and your traveler's
check numbers separately
from your checks. Passport
replacements can only be
obtained in San Josι.
